Kevin Smith
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Smith has held senior executive positions in a number of successful energy development and technology companies including those that develop solar and wind energy projects as well as natural gas and biomass-fired electricity generating facilities. In the last twenty years, Mr. Smith has actively managed the successful development, acquisition, financing and construction of more than forty power generation facilities in the US and internationally with total capital costs of more than $4.5 billion and long-term electricity sales contracts approaching $50 billion. This includes projects located in the United States and more than a dozen countries around the world including the successful development and construction of projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Mr. Smith has led numerous private equity financing activities for three different startup companies - raising more than $450 million in development funding. Prior to joining SolarReserve, Mr. Smith was Senior Vice President of Development at Invenergy LLC where he led the development of Invenergy Wind from a startup stage in 2004 to one of the largest privately owned renewable energy businesses in the world just three years later with more than $2.0 billion of projects in operation and construction.
Prior to Invenergy, Mr. Smith was President of Insight Energy, Inc., was Chief Operating Officer of London-based Rolls-Royce Power Ventures, and was General Manager & Vice President of Indeck Energy. At Rolls-Royce Power Ventures Mr. Smith led the aggressive growth of this start up group into one of the leaders in the international development of industrial power projects while building an international team and building projects in ten countries.
Mr. Smith earned an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and is a licensed Professional Engineer. In October of 2008, Mr. Smith received the Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award from Purdue University.
