Julie Way
Director Development
With a career spanning more than 20 years, Julie Way brings extensive experience and a comprehensive background in the energy industry to SolarReserve. In past positions with global energy and oil/gas companies, she has participated in origination, commercial and design roles, and has directed development activities for successful cogeneration projects both in the US and internationally. In a prior role, Ms. Way was responsible for directing all day-to-day development activities for the first phase of a 320 MW natural-gas fired project, the first power plant to start up after the California power crisis. In that capacity, she was responsible for directing permitting and regulatory activities, market analysis/price forecasting/risk management studies, gas turbine purchases, financial modeling and steam pricing evaluations. She also led a collaborative negotiation with a neighboring plant to jointly develop, construct, and own a major transmission line and participated in project sale and acquisition activities with a prospective partner, developing strategies which led to significant savings in project net present value. In her most recent role, she directed development activities for a peaking project in California, leading all permitting activities, regulatory proceedings, water/wastewater optimization studies, engineering services, interconnection activities and public relations, as well as negotiations for commercial agreements including the interconnection agreement, power purchase agreement, gas turbine purchase agreement and a land exchange agreement with the local jurisdiction.
Ms. Way's technical background provides a solid foundation for her development expertise. She began her career with a global engineering firm, performing cycle efficiency/ optimization studies for multi-fueled cogeneration projects, administering gas turbine purchase contracts for refinery/cogeneration facilities, and performing technical and economic evaluations to recommend cost-effective project configurations for cogeneration facilities and refineries in various parts of the US and world. Her experience leading cross-functional teams as both an owner and contractor provides both extensive project execution experience as well as insights into successful project management practices.
Ms. Way earned an MBA from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University (honors program). She maintains a Professional Engineering license in the State of Kansas.
